Review by Al Todorovic
The movie opens at a funeral for Clint Eastwood’s wife. Now he’s an ancient widower unconcerned with being polite. Smoking butts and being mean.
Gran Torino is set in Detroit. Eastwood’s character used to work at the Ford plant. He is now retired and refusing to move, comes at odds with the loval Hmong gang. His next door neighbors are Sue, a pretty girl and Tao, a pussy. Tao is under a lot of peer pressure from his cousin spider to become a criminal, but resists and looks up to Eastwood.
The narrative of the story is solid, it makes sense. chronicling the last years of a mean old man.
There are a lot of draw backs to this movie though. To begin with Eastwood sings over the closing credits. And it uses more racial epithets then any other movie I’ve ever seen.
Overall, go see this movie. The story is fast and the two hour running length fly’s by.
